Discover the history of the only HBCU with a Division One swim program. Howard University’s swim team is making history while utilizing its notoriety to encourage others in the Black community to learn how to swim competitively and for survival.
Founded in 1927, the legacy of the Howard University swim team persevered despite segregation and other deterrents meant to discourage Black people from swimming. Learn how Howard’s aquatics varsity swimming and diving team continues building legacy beyond the water. "Beyond the Water" is a WHUT PBS (Howard University Television) original.
