HBCU Innovation: Prairie View A&M Grads Create GoldPhish - Free AI Tool to Safeguard Users from 3.4 Billion Daily Phishing Attempts

Prairie View A&M Grads Create GoldPhish
| Editorial Team | HBCUs: In the News

These Prairie View A&M seniors built GoldPhish – a free AI Chrome extension fighting phishing with 98% accuracy. Real HBCU innovation protecting inboxes everywhere.

Prairie View, Texas – A team of graduating seniors from Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) has developed an accessible, high-accuracy artificial intelligence tool designed to protect everyday users from the growing epidemic of phishing attacks. With over 3.4 billion phishing attempts sent daily, GoldPhish stands out as a practical defense mechanism available to individuals without enterprise-level resources.

What is GoldPhish? Real-Time AI Email Protection

The four-member team—Omar El Miloudi, Amina Jade Washington, Ryan Keith Linton, and Wali Mohmmed Siddiqui—created GoldPhish, a free Google Chrome extension. It integrates seamlessly with Gmail to analyze emails in real time, flagging suspicious messages with 98.16% accuracy during testing.

Using a machine learning model trained on the SpamAssassin corpus with TF-IDF and Logistic Regression, GoldPhish evaluates email content and assigns a risk score from 0 to 100. A generative AI feature provides clear explanations for flagged messages, empowering users to make informed decisions quickly.

GoldPhish Teams Motivation Behind the Project

The developers shared that personal experiences with phishing victims motivated their work: “Everyone on the team had seen someone fall for a phishing email, whether a family member, a coworker, or a professor.” They observed that existing solutions were often limited to enterprises, required paid subscriptions, or relied solely on known threat signatures. GoldPhish was built to be smarter, free, and universally accessible, operating directly in the user’s inbox for contextual threat detection.

Award-Winning Innovation from PVAMU

The project earned first place at PVAMU Student Research Day in April. This achievement highlights the team’s technical excellence and commitment to solving real-world problems through innovation.

Meet the GoldPhish Development Team

Omar El Miloudi (Product Engineer): A Houston native and computer science graduate, El Miloudi led development. He is a former “Most Outstanding Computer Science Student,” University Honors College member, and intern at companies including Electronic Arts, Cisco, Oracle, and MongoDB. He will join Dell Technologies post-graduation.

Ryan Keith Linton (Backend Developer): Pursuing dual degrees in computer science and mathematics, Linton contributed to the core infrastructure. A Houston native with extensive campus leadership experience, he will join Amazon after interning there and at Google.

Amina Jade Washington (UX Designer): From San Antonio, Washington focused on user experience and brings a cybersecurity concentration. She served in leadership roles in the Cybersecurity Club and Apple HBCU program. She will join ServiceNow after internships at Uber and others.

Wali Mohmmed Siddiqui (Team Member): A first-generation student from The Woodlands, Siddiqui contributed to the project while preparing for a role at Fidelity Investments following an internship at Collins Aerospace.

Why This Matters for HBCU Innovation and Cybersecurity

This project demonstrates the significant contributions of HBCU students to the technology sector. As phishing threats evolve, tools like GoldPhish provide democratized access to sophisticated AI protection. Find the Google Chrome Webstore for GoldPhish via this link.
