Stevenson has argued and won multiple landmark cases before the United States Supreme Court, including a 2012 decision banning mandatory life-without-parole sentences for juveniles and a 2019 ruling protecting individuals with dementia from execution.
Under his leadership, EJI has secured the release or relief of more than 140 wrongly condemned individuals on death row and aided hundreds of others who were unjustly convicted or unfairly sentenced.
