The Spelman Seven Celebrate Academic Excellence and Sisterhood at Historic Commencement!

Spelman College, a leading historically Black college for women in Atlanta, has achieved a milestone with seven co-valedictorians in the Class of 2026—the highest number in the institution’s history. All seven graduates maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout their undergraduate studies, embodying excellence in academics, leadership, and community impact.

The group, affectionately known as “The Spelman Seven,” includes Alexis Sims, Nia-Sarai Perry, Cori’Anna White, Aiyana Ringo, Alyssa Richardson, Sophia Davis, and Mariama Diallo. Their diverse academic backgrounds span fields such as biochemistry, sociology, philosophy, political science, documentary filmmaking, and more.

A Testament to Black Women’s Brilliance and Collective Achievement

This record-breaking achievement highlights the power of an HBCU education and the strength found in sisterhood. The valedictorians credit Spelman’s supportive environment for fostering their success, describing the college as a space where Black women can thrive authentically.

"It’s very difficult to be valedictorian at Spelman and seeing seven Black women accomplish that shows our brilliance and our excellence.“
Aiyana Ringo, valedictorian at Spelman College
"Being distinguished with my sisters, it’s just amazing. I feel strengthened in it“
Alyssa Richardson, valedictorian at Spelman College

The seven graduates supported one another through challenges, from rigorous coursework to personal obstacles, reinforcing bonds that began years before their time at Spelman. Their stories reflect resilience, mentorship, and a commitment to lifting each other up.
